Reduce the number of destinations
Group the loose files you need into a few folders such as Current work, Reference, and Inbox. Choose names that tell you where a new file belongs. Keep infrequently used material in Finder rather than leaving every archive on the desktop.
Choose a layout that matches your work
A single column suits a small folder set. A two- or three-panel wallpaper can separate classes or projects. The panel artwork does not move or sort files: place each folder yourself, and leave some open space for new items.
Adjust icon size and spacing
Use Finder’s View Options to adjust desktop icon size, label presentation, and grid spacing. Keep folder names short enough to read. If Sort By is arranging icons automatically, check that setting before trying to position folders manually.
Test the wallpaper fit
Set the wallpaper first and look for cropping near the screen edges. Align folders only after the panels appear where you need them. Changing display resolution or switching monitors can affect the fit, so keep the design simple enough to recover quickly.
Review the Inbox
A wallpaper cannot maintain a filing system for you. Empty the Inbox at a regular time and remove completed projects from the desktop. If a zone repeatedly overflows, simplify the categories rather than shrinking the icons until labels are unreadable.
